Isiiad (I saw it in a dream) is an arts and design blog. It is centred in Warrandyte and the surrounding Yarra Valley but will go where ever my creative spirit takes me… so Warrandyte to the world. Creator and blog owner is Jeannette Davison.

Happy New Year!

Feast

It's almost two weeks since I've ventured into Isiiad and written any news for you.  What  a time it's been! Family, food, and fun have been front and centre on my agenda over the last week and a bit.  In addition to all of that, I did extremely well in the present department.

Remember my shared ownership of Jessie Pittard's woodblock print "Feast".  My dearest most generous sister Tina, gifted me her half of it as a Christmas present.  Now I will enjoy it all year round...thank you so so much Tina!

Another pressie I simply have to tell you about arrived under my tree as a brown paper package tied up with string. The book wrapped therein- The Artist's Lunch, was the best surprise. While I pride myself on keeping abreast of new arts related publications, this one had slipped under my radar.  It's a book I wish I had written myself and which has given me endless hours of browsing and reading pleasure over the holiday season.

The Artist's Lunch is a magnificently designed and produced book allowing the reader a mouthwatering peek into the kitchens and dining rooms of some of Australia's most notable artists.  Mirka Mora reveals her penchant for sitting up in bed reading cookery books, while Tim Maguire (wouldn't I just love one of his paintings) talks about amazing meals shared with his very good friends in Paris.  Luke Scibbera's mention of his snake cooked in vegemite explained why Tim Storrier won't go to his house for dinner!! John Olsen is a well known foodie...so naturally finds his place amoung its pages. Other artists featured include Jeffrey Smart, Tim Storrier and Margaret Olley- whose dinner parties are the stuff of legend.

The photography by Sarah Rhodes is luscious, while the references to food are even more luscious.  This is a book to savour with a like minded foodie/art lover. Thanks so much Lyn for this most welcome brown paper package tied up with string.  It will undoubtedly go down as one of my favourite things in 2012.

The Artist's Lunch is by Alice McCormick and Sarah Rhodes, with a foreword by Margaret Olley. It's published by Murdoch Books and is available through all good book shops.
