Tin Shed Gallery

TinShedGallery_s

I've been wanting to pop in to the Tin Shed Gallery for a long time. Every time I come back over the bridge from North Warrandyte I've promised myself a little foray there.  I was so glad when I did.  Jo Kline was on duty last Friday and filled me in on the short history of the gallery. Jo is one of the three artists who runs The Tin Shed Gallery and whose work is exhibited there. With two of her old school chums, Fiona Fisher and Georgia Clark from Warrandyte High School, she set the gallery up almost twelve months ago.  The space itself has had several incarnations since the 1890's, when  it was used as a wine hall.  It sits at the roundabout in Yarra Street, Warrandyte.  What I didn't realise is that there's a great cafe (The Roundabout Cafe) and a ceramist (Ann-Maree Gentile) in the same little nook. More about them next post.

Jo loves to paint the female form. She's also an interior designer.  She told me about her time as artist in residence at the local primary school.  With her creative guidance, the students painted a large container.  Once painted, the school in it's wisdom, agreed to turn the painted container into a very attractive veggie patch. The project was so successful that once a week the produce is sold to the school community.  Kids line up to buy veggies for their family, that they've grown themselves. It's a project that just keeps on giving.

Fiona and Georgia's paintings are also on sale at the Gallery.

Beautiful abstract paintings by Georgia Clark.  Art versus Nature I and II. Though abstract, they take me right back to the gum trees off my deck at Isiiad
