One of my favourite New York finds, Marianne Van Ooij, has sent some great news.  I met her last December at the Museum of Arts and Design as a participant in their Open Studio Program.

She will be exhibiting work in several places as part of New York Design Week 2011.  These sensational Flatlamps,

"...break down our ideas of what lamps look like.  New forms of lighting- in this case LED's- no longer call for the need of shades to diffuse light, nor do they need depth to do their job.  The lamp stands alone, can be placed against the wall or hung."

If you're in New York this coming weekend you can see them at, Bobby Berk Home: 59 Crosby Street, Saturday May 14th @ 7-10pm. (organized by Stylefactory)

Other work will be included at, Noho Design District, 45 Great Jones St.  13th-17th May, 12-7pm. (American Design Club)

Last year, in their wisdom, The Met Opera Shop NYC commissioned Marianne to design a series of cushions representing that season at the Opera.  Besides creating a new series of cushions this year, Marianne will be looking into others products for the store.

The number of stores carrying Marianne's wares is on the increase.  She has recently added SAM  (The Seattle Art Museum), Woonwinkel in Portland Oregan, Urban Alchemist in Brooklyn NY and HUT13 in Australia, to the list. More about HUT13 later.
