The Roundabout Cafe

RoundaboutCafeOrangePainting_s

How many times have you heard someone say that the kitchen is the heart and soul of the house?  It's true though isn't it.  This little cafe reminded me so much of that saying. It's got an abundance of heart and soul.  The walls are covered with artwork.  The windows are adorned with drawings by the son of the owner Karen Mew. Shelves are stacked with local produce and ceramics by Ann-Maree Gentile (more about Ann-Maree tomorrow). The menu is simple 'real' food, inspired by Karen's South American background. I can recommend the salad platter which includes black eyed peas and rice with coconut and salmon patties all served with home made relish. Another favourite is BBQ West Indian Chicken with cajun beans. Karen outsources some killer lemon tarts. She proudly showed me her plans for incorporating a weekend artists market in the grounds around the cafe and also where she plans to expand the outside eating areas. You can just see the river from the front of the cafe. It's a fun, funky place for a coffee and  a lunch.  It closes at 6pm

Karen is also a draughtsperson, with several projects on the go. Where does she find the time?

Roundabout Cafe is at 230 Yarra Street Warrandyte...right by the roundabout and across from the Tin Shed Gallery.
