I really really want one of these. It wont be any surprise that the maker is a chef turned glass maker. His name is David Corstorphan. It’s such a fun idea. Your favourite recipe on a glass splashback for your kitchen. This chocolate mousse recipe is courtesy of celebrity chef Skye Gyngell (“My favourite ingredients”). I’m told by David that it’s his all time favourite choccie mousse recipe ( I have a strong suspicion that he had a great deal of fun ‘researching’ that one.) Clever clever clever. I’m sorry that the photo doesn’t do it justice (I discovered that glass is very difficult to photograph) but I hope there’s enough there for you to get the idea.
In his time as a chef, David worked with some pretty impressive restaurants, Lynches, Harveys in South Yarra and Big Mouth in St Kilda. Ten years ago, he participated in the Bachelor of Fine Arts Glass degree at RMIT. Since then glass making has been his passion and he hasn’t looked back. His enthusiasm for what he’s doing is infectious. He now has a beautiful gallery in Warrandyte which showcases his work.

These plates and glasses were a commission for Mark Douglass for the launch of 2005 Penfolds Grange. They did a series of glassware and plates made from Grange bottles. Shannon Bennett used the plates to serve food at the event. Apparently Shannon still uses them at his restaurant. The combining of David’s two passions, food and glass, has led to some great creations. I love it when the sum of peoples interests are turned to make new and interesting things.
It really is worth a trip out to Warrandyte just to see his work. Viewing is by appointment so I have added the phone number and address below so that on your next Sunday with nothing to do you can come out and see him.
