This experience encapsulates why I loved New York so so much.  Imagine being in one of the biggest, brightest museums of modern art known to man. Then picture a huge void within it’s walls, several stories high. On the floor of that huge void place a grand piano with a hole in the middle, big enough for a person to fit through. Then let’s put a person in through the hole and have him play the piano (back to front)…

But wait, there’s more…

That piano with the hole in the middle is on casters so that as the person plays, he moves the piano around the space, taking the audience with him.

Maybe you had to be there to experience the tingling rush of excitement all of that engendered. Maybe I was succumbing to New York Fever… but oh how I enjoyed it.

The Moma sits pretty much smack bang in the middle of Manhattan island so don’t miss it if you’re planning a trip there.  But be warned, from the helicopter dangling in the stairwell, to the computer images of aviation flight paths around the world, it will challenge and delight your perception of contemporary art.

Long may it continue!
