Every time I look at this photo I have a little moment of delight. This is another offering from the MAD (Museum of Arts and Design) in New York. What a find! Ousmane M’Baye is one of many African designers creating magnificent work from the things that are thrown out in other countries. This kitchen furniture is made from recycled oil drums with a bit of help from black galvanised sheet metal. It’s an exceptionally clever idea beautifully crafted. The designer himself sums it up when he says “…the colours produce smiles.” He got that right!
I’ve done a bit of a google search for more of his work and unearthed this site. If you think this piece is good, wait till you see the work showcased on this link.
