Sue enjoys nothing more than playing around with textile ideas in her tiny studio at Montsalvat. She shares the studio with her daughter Amy Skipper, grand daughter of the lengendary Matcham Skipper. While Amy makes magnificent wedding gowns and costumes, Sue is more interested in soft furnishings and accessories like bags and beads.
These gorgeous bags are great examples of her creative genius.
The dress is by Amy Skipper.
The light pours into the studio providing a lovely airy work space. I had the distinct impression that Sue has the time of her life here at her sewing machine…
….or stitching outside the studio.
This old sewing machine was a gift from Matcham Skipper. Apparently he was a great fossicker amoungst the hard rubbish and found what, to the untrained eye, was an ordinary brown cupboard. On further inspection this beautiful old sewing machine revealed itself. It sits in pride of place at the entrance of the studio.
Sue works on a commission basis for private clients and also works through interior decorators. Contact her to discuss any soft furnishing project. She likes clients to supply their own fabric. If you’re looking for her studio at Montsalvat, head for the glasshouse.
